Computer technology today is moving away from devices that are plugged into the wall and more towards handheld or mobile devices. These devices need wireless networking to be useful. The current campus wireless network was designed to get blanket coverage, but not necessarily for the huge number of devices we currently have, and are sure to see even more of in the coming years. The wireless network needs to be improved to support higher density of connected devices, and not just area coverage. The infrastructure should also be adaptable to future technologies as they come out.
